Sony Corp. and NBC Universal have taken first place among bidders in the auction of rights to produce a film with Michael Jackson’s rehearsal footage filmed during his preparation of his “This is It” concert series.
LA-based concert promoter AEG Live reportedly started the bidding for the movie rights at $50 million, and the television special rights at $10 million. AEG Live reportedly has more than 100 hours of footage on the preparation “This Is It,” including 3D footage!
Auction winners are expected to be announced this week. Viacom’s Paramount Pictures Corp., MTV, NBC Universal, Sony Music and Sony Pictures, and News Corp’s Twentieth Century Fox, Fox Broadcasting Co., also have placed bids on the footage and audio recordings.
AEG Live is a subsidiary of the privately-owned Denver-based Anschutz Corp., which also owns Clarity Media Group, the parent company of Examiner.com.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
