About IN 3D NOW
Welcome to IN 3D NOW! www.in3dnow.com is the web’s premier portal site for news, features, and opinions about the next wave of 3d technology-stereo 3d television in full high definition. Most people’s perception of 3d is based on decadesold technology: anaglyph images that use twocolor glasses to create a stereoscopic image. They think back to the 3d movies of their-and even their parents’-youth: cheap cardboard red and bluefilm glasses, cheap shocks and scares, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Even this year’s Super Bowl advertisement for Monsters vs. Aliens used anaglyph images on existing television technology.
However, this technology’s time is passing. The next generation of 3d technology will make use of dedicated technology tailored for the delivery of stereoscopic 3d in both movie theaters and in the home. The fact of the matter is that this exciting new technology will be arriving sooner than most realize. A new generation of 3d movies is playing to packed houses at Imax theaters across the country-over 15 3d movies will be released in 2009 alone. In fact, Dreamworks recently announced that all of its animated films will be produced for distribution in 3d. Great strides are being made on the home entertainment front as well. Earlier this year, at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show, conference attendees waited for hours to enjoy Panasonic’s prototype 3D Full HD Plasma Home Theater System demonstration. Some manufacturers (Mitsubishi, Phillips, Samsung, and Sharp) have already started selling 3dcapable high definition televisions-and big name brands like Sony, Panasonic, and LG plan to bring new 3d televisions to market at the end of 2009 and in early 2010.
